Dr Peter Lamont is a historian and psychologist at the University of Edinburgh, and a columnist for Genii magazine. After funding his early studies by working as a magician, he was awarded the Dalziel Prize for British History, and then an Arts and Humanities Research Council Fellowship in the Creative and Performing Arts. He has written extensively on the history, theory and psychology of magic and the paranormal for a wide range of audiences, and his various media involvements include writing and presenting the BBC radio series Wizards of the North, and being the academic consultant on the BBC television series, Magic.
